JavaNLP meeting notes for 03/05/03 This was our first meeting in a while. We will have one more meeting this quarter next Wednesday (3/12/03) at 4pm (room to be determined). We're once again focusing this week's efforts on short-term achievable goals to improve overall usability of the code base. Here are the specific tasks for this week: Dan: - misc. parser stuff (with Chris/Roger) (head-child, modularization for languages, etc.) - parser GUI (with Huy) - add to clustering applet (with Sep) Roger: - parser stuff (with Dan/Chris) Kristina: - add stochastic HPSG code to repository - misc pos tagger improvements (talk to Chris: file formats, unifying classes, etc.) Cindi: - make FrameNet code use JAXP - add FrameNet reading code to JavaNLP Huy: - help Dan with parser GUI - improve HMM docs (make task-oriented tutorial with Teg/Joseph) Teg: - move Feature classes out of hmm and into process - help draft user-oriented docs and tutorial for ie.hmm package Joseph: - move splitting, vocab etc methods up to DataCollection - remove DocumentCollection unless it still has useful functionality - add DocumentReader interface for parsing up different file formats - look at disbanding annotator package (esp. general web stuff) Sep: - move matrix stuff out of DataCollection and into separate class - add to clustering applet (with Dan) - update Document subclasses to use DocumentReaders As usual, I'll send out email next Monday asking for updates. If you've completed your tasks, let me know what kind of food you'd like me to bring to the next meeting, and I'll be happy to arrange it as a reward for hard work. :) If you feel that writing good code is its own reward, that's fine too! Also--we'd like to start doing some JavaNLP branding such as desiging a logo and making t-shirts for everyone in the group. If you can think of a better name than JavaNLP (some worry it's a bit generic, though it's certainly catchy!) or you have suggestions for logo/shirt designs, please send them to me and/or the list. See you next Wednesday. Thanks, js
